Directorate General of Post and Telecommunication has
tasks to formulate and implement policy and standardization in post
and telecommunication field.
In implementing the tasks as mentioned above, Directorate
General of Post and Telecommunication executes the functions as follow
:

Preparing policy formulation of Department of Communication and Information Technology
in post, telecommunication and informatics, radio frequency spectrum,
radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbit.
- Implementing policy in post, telecommunication and informatics,
radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbit.
- Formulating standard, norm, criteria and procedure in post, telecommunication
and informatics, radio frequency spectrum and satellite orbit.
- Executing technical counseling and evaluation.
- Implementing administration affairs of Directorate General of Post
and Telecommunication.
Function of DGPT
DGPT has three main functions regarding posts and telecommunications operations:
to regulate, to monitor and to perform law enforcement. The first function covers
all general and operational aspects, which is implemented through licensing and
other requirements. The second function covers all aspects of surveillance and
scrutiny to make sure that posts and telecommunications are conducted within the
legal framework, while the third function deals with supervision to the operators
as well as enforcement of law regarding their operations
All those functions are the implementation of the policy-making function owned
by the Minister, whose responsibility is in the field of posts and telecommunications.
Policymaking is a strategic function owned by the Minister, a function that deals
with strategic development plan and fundamental technical plan of national posts
and telecommunications. Hence, the three functions held by DGPT will always comply
with the Minister's policies and DGPT always make any effort to put into practise
all policies in order to fulfill people's need in posts and telecommunications
services, including services in rural areas.
